First published in 1607 in Hondius' Atlas Minor, many of the copperplates from this Atlas were subsequently used by the English writer Samuel Purchas to illustrate the text of his important and extensive collection of early travels and voyages, Purchas his Pilgrimes published in London in 1625. A reduction of Hondius' larger folio sized map of the same title, first issued in 1606, the map encompasses much of the East Indies extending from India to the coasts of Southern China with the Malay peninsula and Philippines also included. Scrollwork title cartouche in upper right corner.
