Originally published in Hondius Atlas Minor [1607] the plates were subsequently employed by English writer Samuel Purchas to illustrate the text of his extensive compilation of travel accounts and voyages Purchas his Pilgrimes [London 1625]. The miniature map of the East Indies was modelled on the larger folio map by Hondius newly engraved for the expanded Mercator-Hondius Atlas in 1606. Extends from the Malay peninsula and Indochina to the Marianas and New Guinea with the Philippines and all of the East Indian islands.
